127 Hours Never Let Me Go Sexy Beast Shame Slumdog Millionaire The Last King of Scotland Fox Searchlight Pictures, established in 1994, is an American film division of Fox Entertainment Group alongside the larger Fox studio 20th Century Fox. It specializes in independent and British films. alongside drama and horror as well as non-English-language films, variously involved with the production and/or distribution of these films. Questionnaire and Questionnaire results
QuestionnaireAs a group we created our questionnaire to find out what our target audience would like to see in a drama opening so we can apply it to ours. In total twenty people completed this questionnaire. We asked multiply choices questions so its easier to analyse it. The types of questions we asked provide us useful information. Such as What character would like to see in a drama film? Out of protagonist and antagonist, the result we got back was that they preferred both. Which correspond to our initial idea.

Question 2
Question 3
Question 4)
From our results that we got back, we noticed that action was the most popular among our target audience and comedy was the least favorite, so we decided that we were not going to go with comedy and that although action was people's favorite we wanted to stick with our idea of a drama as we think it would be best not to use the genre that everyone enjoyed and are used to, so we picked drama; it may interest our audience because it will be something different and could possibly please our audience. So although we are not using this particular piece of information to fully influence our idea to what genre to make our film, it still helped us decide what genre to defiantly not pick and slightly help us pick which one to pick. Question 5
5) From our results that we got back, we noticed that action was the most popular among our target audience and comedy was the least favorite, so we decided that we were not going to go with comedy and that although action was people's favorite we wanted to stick with our idea of a drama as we think it would be best not to use the genre that everyone enjoyed and are used to, so we picked drama; it may interest our audience because it will be something different and could possibly please our audience. So although we are not using this particular piece of information to fully influence our idea to what genre to make our film, it still helped us decide what genre to defiantly not pick and slightly help us pick which one to pick. Question 6
6) When looking at the results of our questionnaire we found that peoples favorite convention of a drama films is real life situations first, most likely because they can relate to it. Then came the dramatic story. We are planning to have both of these conventions in our opening and so knowing that it matches audience pleasures and knowing that what we want to include is what the audience prefer is a good sign so we know that we produce would be something that will appeal to our target audience. Question 7
7) When we asked people what character they would like to see in a drama film between a protagonist and antagonist, majority chose both. This helps support our concept of having a protagonist as well as an antagonist in our opening. Because both pleases our target audience it helps to strengthen our idea of including both types of characters in our opening. Question 8)
Looking at the result we got back about what gender people like to see dominate a drama scene, most said male. The reason why this was useful asking is because we wanted the both lead roles in our opening to be male, so to see that is what the audience want, it helps us push that idea forward knowing that it suits our target audience. Question 9
9) The result that we got back from what audience want to be left with at the end of an opening was that they preferred unanswered questions, which matched our idea that we would engage the audience by leaving them with an unanswered question where the audience would be almost tempted to watch the rest of the film. 11 people said that unanswered question was the more suited to them, so by going with our initial idea of having an unanswered question we know that it is going to please our audience. Question 10
10) After asking this question as part of questionnaire. A majority of the people we asked liked the idea of a car. This strengths our idea of using a car. The second most popular is the graveyard this links to a real life situation that we want to do. It is important to have the right setting as its the opening and it engage the audience as well somewhere they can relate to. Questions 11
11) When we asked 20 people, do you think it is important to establish the setting straight away. A total of 12 people said no. This was not the result we were expecting. This useful information can help us with our film opening as we do not have to establish our setting straight away as previously planned. Instead to create more tension we can change our initial ideal of showing the setting to cater to audience pleasures. Questions 12
12) A majority of people wanted flashback in a drama opening. We wanted to find out what type of narrative our target audience wanted to see and what engages them into the text. As a group we are now able to discuss possible flash backs that would follow our storyline. Question 13
13) As we want to do a drama opening clip. It is important for us to get the pace correct. We want to emphasizes the storyline without taking away the suspense we are trying to create. 12 people wanted a slow pace this helps reinforce our idea. As a slow pace matches the drama conventions alot more then a fast pace scene. |
Target Audience
We are planning on aiming our film opening to asian teenage males aged 15-18, as asians were the most common response in our survey, and teenage males were the most common gender, also we got the highest response rate from 15-18 year olds. What this means for our film opening is it needs to be eventful and grabing the audiences attention early on, As we are aiming at teenage males, To reach an asian audience we are planning on making sunny an actor as, he is a character or actor that the audience can relate to, as we asked what gender people would like to see on stage people said males, so we are having me and sunny act as the leading roles. Our survey may be biased for age , all the participants we asked to fill in the survey were from ages 15-18, which guranteed we would be making a film opening to people around this age.
